T-Shirt Design Sizes: A Comprehensive Guide to Finding the Perfect Fit

shirt design size

That’s because sizes can appear quite different when you wear them as compared to a 2D design file. If you have to choose between different print providers that use similar printing methods and garments, you still have to consider several factors. For instance, each print provider may have a different workflow, equipment, product quality, and several other factors. When it comes to determining the ideal image size for T-shirt printing, there are four key factors that need to be taken care of.

Fashion Inspo: Chic Street Fusion - Striking the Perfect Balance

Sleeve Designs – For short-sleeved shirts the design should be about 3″ square. The bottom of the design is placed about an inch above the hem. For a long sleeve, a vertical design can be about 2 inches wide and up to 11 inches tall. Don't make bright and bold colors the main selling point of your designs. From a brand logo, to care instructions, tips, and sizing — this little placement is a print location worth utilizing.

The Printable Area

” Maybe the graphic is chilling in your armpit (awkward), or the logo is so big it’s practically a dress. That’s because T-shirt design isn’t just about slapping a pretty picture on fabric. It’s about understanding the shirt as a 3D space and how that design will sit on a moving, breathing human body. Upper Back – this placement is across the shoulder blades and is typically seen with security or staff work shirts. It’s also the print area for custom bridal denim jackets (get a tutorial here).

Are shirt sizes universal?

Patterns and prints can add visual interest to t-shirt designs. However, it’s important to consider how these elements will translate across different sizes. Large, intricate patterns may be overpowering on smaller sizes, while smaller patterns may not have the desired impact on larger sizes. Adapt the scale and placement of patterns and prints to ensure they enhance the design on all t-shirt sizes.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is how big to make a design for apparel printing. In this post, we’ll cover various design sizes, and how to determine the best size for what you are printing. If you're creating a centered graphic that will cover a large portion of the chest area, keep in mind that the total area for an adult shirt is about 11" x 13". Place the design 3” to 3.5” below the collar or neckline to ensure it falls exactly where it needs to be. Printbest™ is a print on demand company powered by SinaLite.

However, women’s shirts are designed specifically for the woman’s natural shape. The shoulders, sleeves and chest will typically fit differently in a woman’s shirt as compared to a man’s shirt. In recent years, on-demand printing services have revolutionized the apparel industry. Most service providers are making use of direct-to-garment (DTG) printing to provide their customers with designs and logos they like. However, it is incredibly important for designers to know the image size that they need to maintain when  preparing new designs, so they can be printed to scale on the T-shirt.

However, some printing companies require files saved as JPEGs or PNGs, which do not allow for vector elements. In this case, when saving vector files, make sure they are the right size and resolution. Ideally, you should maintain an image resolution of 300 DPI, because it is generally recommended by print providers. Printbest will also take lower resolutions, but we don’t recommend anything less than 150 DPI.

SHOP BY PRODUCT

For this purpose, you will need a print provider that provides you with an accurate and real-time mockup of the T-shirt when you upload your design. Luckily, Printbest offers you free mockups that you can use to check the placement and sizing of your designs on a T-shirt. T-shirt size charts are, indeed, notoriously inconsistent.

A non-vector image, also called a raster image, is one that can’t be scaled beyond its full-size dimensions without loss of quality. StartYourLine has been manufacturing textile products for over 20 years. It’s situated at 1926 Doreen Ave, South El Monte, CA 91733. Lefty Production Co has collaborated with some famous fashion brands like Matthew Williamson, Rosetta Getty, Christian Siriano, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus.

Choose silhouettes that flatter plus-size bodies, such as A-line or empire waist designs. These styles help accentuate curves and create a balanced and flattering look. Avoid designs that cling too tightly or overly emphasize certain areas, and opt for designs that provide comfortable and stylish options for plus-size individuals. Right at eye level, this is a great location for a logo or graphic element. The top of the design should be placed around 1-2 inches from the bottom of the collar. From pockets on T-shirts to pant legs on sweatpants, view recommended design dimensions based on the area you're decorating.

Strategically placing patterns or prints can help create a visually slimming effect or draw attention to specific areas. For example, vertical stripes can elongate the body, while patterns placed at the waist can create a more defined silhouette. The sleeve length measurement determines the desired length of the sleeves.

For example, an image centered on a small-sized t-shirt may appear off-center or skewed on a larger size. By adapting the placement of images to suit different sizes, you can ensure a visually balanced design that retains its impact across all dimensions. Finding the right design size for shirts is crucial for printing high-quality, visually appealing images. If you want to add a print to the yoke area, a good design size is about 3” wide. Some brands keep it on the smaller side, about 2” or so for a logo, but anything between that 2 – 3” will look good.

Opt for fabrics that have stretch and provide ease of movement. Fabrics like cotton blends or jersey knits offer both comfort and breathability. Ensure that the fabric choice complements the design and enhances the overall fit and feel of the t-shirt.

With nowhere to go, fate delivers her to the sorority girls from Zeta Alpha Zeta. Unless they can sign a new pledge class, the seven socially clueless women will lose their house to the scheming girls of Phi Iota Mu. In order to accomplish their goal, they need Shelley to teach them the ways of makeup and men; at the same time, Shelley needs some of what the Zetas have - a sense of individuality.

Although noticeably lacking some of the stars, it's clear that Katherine McPhee, Anna Faris, and the rest of the Zetas look back on the comedy fondly. While the cast looks great, I'm not sure that audience would have responded quite as well to a movie called I Know What Boys Like. While a great song lyric, it sounds similar to What Women Want, a movie which is getting a gender swapped version this year. This title could have been a backup plan, in case they couldn't get the rights to the Playboy Bunny name. Although Hugh Hefner's involvement in the film likely nipped that in the bud.

So, let’s look back on where they’re at these days, after their time in the Zeta house. Having gotten a makeover and lessons on how to attract guys and be popular, the Zetas throw a party, which is a huge success. There are a lot of phenomenal vegetable-focused things on the seasonal menu, but you'll also find impressive proteins, like a wagyu bavette that looks so perfect that it could be a movie prop. This place is also an ideal day-off lunch spot, with a daytime prix fixe lunch for about $40-$60 per person that's worth making up an excuse to blow off work this Friday.

The rolls are packed with lots of sauces and ingredients—but it works beautifully and never tastes overwhelming. There are delicious cooked small plates like conch fritters and chicken karaage too. It’s one of the Design District’s only walk-in options, so keep it in mind next time you want very good sushi without a reservation. Donatella Versace graces the cover of our Luxe Issue—a fitting choice whose iconic looks have walked every red carpet and were worn by JLo at the Superbowl in Miami. We revisit Versace’s deep relationship with the Magic City and how designer Sasha Bikoff reinterpreted Miami 90s glam for a new generation. Another lady making a technicolored splash is Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet who let us into her colorful world.

Between luxury fashion, cutting-edge architecture, 24/7 access to the arts, and world-class dining, the Miami Design District is proud to act as the city’s cultural epicenter. The Design District Magazine’s Art & Design Issue guides you through everything happening during Art & Design week and throughout the holiday season in the Miami Design District. Superstar Pharrell Williams and impresario David Grutman grace the cover and discuss the magic that went into creating the latest neighborhood hotspot, Swan and Bar Bevy, an ideal venue for a holiday get together.

They have some pricey tasting menu options that won’t disappoint, but if you’re going a la carte, make sure to get some form of sashimi and le foie gras au torchon, which comes with slices of buttery grilled brioche. The menu does change seasonally, so if you don’t see those two dishes—don’t panic. Whatever you have here is going to be some of the most interesting food you’ve eaten all year. B-Side is a Design District sushi spot from the team behind Maty’s, and it’s in the space where its former sister restaurant, Itamae, used to be. There are a couple menu items leftover from Itamae (like the incredible scallop and octopus bañaditos), but B-Side is less a special occasion spot, and more of a casual place to grab some very good sushi rolls.

First Look at Astoria Biryani House

While we were sitting there, they came out to apologize for the food and let us know the food was taking longer than expected and offered us some drinks. We took them up on the offer and asked for the Limca which is a popular soft drink in India, that had a very lemony bite to it. More so than other drinks you’d compare it to, like a 7Up or Sprite.

Theme Catering

Moments later, another employee came up and apologized and said they gave us the wrong naan and the bullet naan was taking longer than expected. Wichita has seen a slew of new Indian restaurants in Wichita and the latest one, Astoria Biryani House, has opened in the former Uno Mas space at 3242 N. The rich aromas swirl through a space lavishly assembled and painstakingly perfected from the riches of the mother country. We want to introduce you to the vibrant flavors eaten in Indian households across the globe.

Menu

Soon after the sun goes down, the restaurant, which is open every day from 11 a.m. Abu Daher, a longtime friend of Karim’s who owns a mechanic shop nearby and eats at Biriyani Kabob House several times a week, says that, more often than not, all of the 10 tables are occupied. During the day, sunlight shines through a panel of draped windows, while at night, purple and green string lights add color to the compact space. Experience a culinary journey like no other, with dishes that'll tantalize your taste buds. Watching your kids enjoying a birthday party is such a pleasure. When it comes to the birthday of your own kid, you want no bricks unturned.

Private events

Everything is made on the premises at Biriyani Kabob House, from the tubs of rice pudding for dessert to the vibrant green yogurt sauce blended with mint, cilantro, jalapeno, and lemon juice that’s served alongside all of the kebabs and biryani. Karim offers eight kinds of biryani including fish, tandoori chicken, and egg, and eight types of kebab (plus the popular mixed grill, a combination plate of chicken and beef kebabs). The menu also boasts 15 curries from korma to karahi; “chef specialties” like nalli nihari, a rich and slow-cooked beef stew; and upwards of 20 vegetarian (mostly vegan) dishes, such as aloo gobi and daal tarka. “This is for the business,” Karim says, since many of his customers eat plant-based food for religious, environmental, or health reasons.

Exquisite cuisine A feast for your Senses

For our main entrées at Astoria Biryani House, we had the shrimp tikka masala and the goat dum biryani. We also ordered some bullet naan, which was a spicy version of their naan and sounded delicious. Our server asked what spice level we wanted for our dishes and I asked for medium while Megan asked for mild. As Karim recounts, the Mughals brought their food, notably kebab and tandoor ovens, with them.

This shared food history is why Biriyani Kabob House is a broadly South Asian restaurant, serving dishes that could be considered Indian, Bangladeshi, or Pakistani. The main differences between each country’s cuisine have to do with what’s abundant on their land, along with various cultural and religious factors. As for kebabs and biryani, Karim says they are executed similarly across all three cuisines. The only difference, he claims, is that Bangladeshi biryani, compared to that of India and Pakistan, is less spicy and also a bit sweeter, on account of ingredients like cinnamon and nutmeg.

Nearby Restaurants

Our service includes setup, chafing dishes, equipment, onsite live cooking BBQ, Chaat Counters, Live Tawa, professional service staff, and clean up. The service at Astoria Biryani House could have used a little work but they have plenty of time to work on that as they head towards a grand opening date later this month. It was an excellent choice; rich, creamy, sweet, tangy, all mixed into one dish. Since I hadn’t received mine yet, I caught myself sneaking in a few bites of her dish while I waited.

Services

To nominate your restaurant or event to be considered for a review, please email us with your restaurant information. If they can get over the kinks, there’s a bright future ahead. My only other concerns for Astoria Biryani House are it doesn’t have the best visibility from Rock Road, and Kababs is across the street. Aside from all that, this is still worth a try to see what you think. After the first bite, we noticed there was no spice to it. There was some crunch to the naan, and could have used a little more butter to it.

For the most part, however, Biriyani Kabob House relies heavily on meat, a nod to the abundance of livestock in Pakistan, where many dishes are meat-based. Come experience the unique culture and cuisine from the spice coast of India. In addition to the well-known Indian dishes you are accustomed to, you can savor the cuisines and a fusion of South Indian and North Indian dishes. Our menu includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Our goal is to bring you great Indian food, created with love and prepared with the best possible ingredients.

He’d watch five to six different chefs — either Indians, Pakistanis, or Bangladeshis — make their own renditions of a given dish and then use those learnings to create his own version. Today, he’s most proud of his Hyderabadi lamb biryani, which is Biriyani Kabob House’s top-selling dish. Karim won’t divulge what makes his interpretation so fluffy and perfectly balanced, with its savory, aromatic notes and tender, fatty lamb. After she was done, my goat dum biryani arrived well after. Don’t let the bowl fool you, there was plenty of goat underneath and it was more food than I needed for lunch. I asked for medium and that’s precisely what they provided.

There’s a line half a dozen deep on a Monday afternoon at Biriyani Kabob House, a strip mall Pakistani restaurant in the northeast pocket of Koreatown bordering Little Bangladesh. Customers help themselves to hefty $2 samosas from the hot case and neon orange mango lassis from the refrigerator. Above the cash register hangs a metal-framed corkboard covered in colorful, worn dollar bills from over 150 countries, and signs taped on both sides listing the day’s specials, like Karachi-style haleem and chicken 65 cooked in a spicy chile tomato sauce. We bring the full experience to you for the ultimate fiesta!

We have been serving authentic Indian cuisine and catering services for years. As a Biryani House, we offer a blend of traditional Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, Vijayawada Special Biryani's, and innovative Indian dishes. You will experience the Most Authentic Hyderabadi Biryani which perfectly combines the ancient traditions and authentic flavors of India. As a Biryani House we offer a blend of traditional Hyderabadi Dum Biryani and innovative Indian dishes.

Before opening Biriyani Kabob House, which expanded to a second location Downtown in early 2021, Karim worked as an aeronautical engineer for 30 years. He was born and raised in Karachi and then lived in Bangladesh and Germany before settling down in Los Angeles in 1981. When Karim was tired of working for someone else, his passion for food drove him into the restaurant business. He picked up a few cooking fundamentals from his late wife, who Karim says “was the number one chef that I ever met,” and the rest he taught himself from watching YouTube.

It was the perfect amount of heat I was looking for and had the classic aroma that one would expect from biryani. This was another excellent choice and one I was very satisfied with; even had plenty to take home and have for dinner. There was a steady flow of customers in the restaurant, and our food did take a little longer than expected for a lunch visit.

Road House 2024 film Wikipedia

road house remake

Unfortunately, this remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a lackluster and ultimately unnecessary retread of the original Patrick Swayze-starring film. And in case you’re wanting to do a comparison watch, “Road House” (1989) is currently streamable with Prime Video, Max and Showtime subscriptions. One element that didn’t work in the original film — the romance between Dalton (Swayze) and “Doc” (Kelly Lynch) also falls flat here, unfortunately.

The 50 Worst Decisions in Movie History

Mostly, people go there to drink and have fun (and to listen to live music—the songs on the movie’s soundtrack range from zydeco to slinky R&B to bar-band raveups). But recently, a tough motorcycle gang has been causing trouble there. On his first night of employment Dalton takes them all on, one by one—breaking arms, butting foreheads, sending bodies flying with jujutsu twirls—and later drives them down the road to the hospital.

Gyllenhaal stars as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who is hired as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys. Dalton works with the owner, Frankie (Jessica Williams), to stop a crime boss and his gang from destroying the bar. Described as an “adrenaline-fueled reimagining" of the "cult classic,” “Road House” follows ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) after he takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse.

‘Road House’ Star Conor McGregor Among Those Helping His Manager Who Passed Out After Movie’s SXSW Premiere — Update

MGM is ramping up speed on its remake of “Road House,” with Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to star and director Doug Liman circling the project. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. Gyllenhaal leads the ensemble cast, which also includes Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida and Lukas Gage. Released on Jan. 25, the first trailer for “Road House” introduces viewers to Dalton, the former UFC fighter who has a tendency to get in brawls with multiple men. Doug Liman will direct the film from a script by The Nice Guys writer Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

At one point, a nasty biker gang shows up and starts wreaking havoc inside the roadhouse. It also features Arturo Castro, B.K. Cannon, Beau Knapp, Darren Barnet, Dominique Columbus and UFC fighter Conor McGregor in his first-ever film role. The film appears to have some similarities with the Swayze, mainly Dalton being a fighting machine working at a roadhouse. Dalton is back to his fighting ways — and this time he’s causing havoc in a new location. Billy Magnussen, Suicide Squad actress Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Lukas Gage are set to star.

One biker, played by the movie’s designated scene-stealer Arturo Castro, keeps a dim-witted running commentary. And then, when Dalton does spring into action, its a hyperkinetic mixed-martial-arts melee that’s a blur and an adrenaline rush. You suddenly remember that Liman was the man calling the shots behind both the casual comic rapport of Swingers (1996) and the close-combat sequences in The Bourne Identity (2002). The humor is deadpan and the fights feel deadly in a way that channels a very 21st century, post-John Wick style of snap, crackle and pow. Frankie’s boisterous seaside establishment is called simply the Road House, a joke name that’s barely even a joke.

However, once he’s there, he discovers that this paradise is not all it seems. Extraordinarily stupid, sure, in that it involves a lot of drunken yokels being socked in the jaw and tossed through tables. But cinematographer Dean Cundey (Jurassic Park, Back to the Future) and editors John F. Link (Die Hard, Predator) and Frank J. Uribe (RoboCop, Basic Instinct) made it a work of art.

Meanwhile, the new Dalton—a disgraced UFC fighter rather than a world-famous bouncer—punches people in the head in undisguised closeups that, even once seen, can barely be believed. Computer trickery is involved for sure, but even so, if you’ve seen enough fights to know what CTE is, this is nightmarish stuff. Though two hours long, the movie moves as swiftly as a greased ferret through a Habitrail and delivers hallucinatory action highs for its extended climax. The ensuing violent confrontations and the spiral of bloodshed turn the idyllic Keys into a battleground, presenting Dalton with challenges far beyond anything he encountered in the Octagon. For his “reimagining” of the story, director Doug Liman (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Edge of Tomorrow”) keeps most threads from the original film while altering some of what doesn’t work in the campy neo-Western. But there's something too artificial about the action, with its often distractingly obvious CGI touch-ups. I saw Road House at a screening in a theater, and it's possible the technical flaws were magnified on the big screen in a way that they won't be on your TV. Even so, it's too bad that audiences won't get a chance to decide for themselves. Doug Liman (“Edge of Tomorrow”) directs the movie from a script written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

Some of the most iconic ‘80s movies like Red Dawn, The Karate Kid, and Robocop have all received the remake treatment in the past decade or so, but one legendary, and badass action flick, 1989’s Road House, has never been remade. Well, that will soon change with the upcoming reimagining of the Patrick Swayze classic with Jake Gyllenhaal leading things. This unconvincing romance, however, is perhaps the sole element that really doesn’t work with the story’s tonal shift.

To Liman and the screenwriters’ credit, the shift from cartoonish action to drama-with-moments-of-heightened-action feels modern and fresh without completely eschewing the spirit of the original film. Those behind this film clearly have affection for the original but it’s not the religious devotion to source material that has killed too many remakes to count. This isn't the first time Gyllenhaal has played an ultra-shredded fighter, as he did in the 2015 boxing melodrama Southpaw. His Dalton is a pretty standard-issue protagonist, complete with a troubled past that haunts his dreams. But Gyllenhaal, who's always brought a touch of wild energy even to his good-guy roles, makes those demons more convincing than you'd expect.

And when it comes to remakes, there exists a fine line that must be walked between regard for the original and fresh perspectives. While there are a few improvements to Doc’s backstory in the script — and Doc is given a lot more to do — Melchior seems ill-equipped to make the already abbreviated romance even slightly believable. Gyllenhaal’s cheekiness is misplaced next to Melchior’s grounded stoicism and the two often feel like they’re in different movies. But for all its attempts to recapture the B-movie spirit of the original, this Road House winds up stuck somewhere in the middle, caught between unironic '80s homage and a more wised-up contemporary sensibility. In the first Road House, there was nearly as much free-flowing sex as there was violence; here, the violence has been amped up to even more bone-crunching extremes, while the sole instance of nudity is played strictly for laughs. And some of the dialogue feels too arch and knowing, like when a friendly local compares Dalton to a character in a Western.

Though Rousey would go on to find tremendous success with WWE following the end of her UFC career, it’s a shame that the ass kicker, who is obsessed with Road House, never got her shot. Streaming has virtually erased the concept, and the allure, of the “straight-to-video” release. Cheap, sensationalistic films are still being made, but they’re more likely to be appreciated only by niche audiences. There’s no such thing as a mainstream B movie—made truly with just a few nickels and not backed by a cool, name-brand studio—that hungry moviegoers, en masse, will trek out to see.

As we've seen from his earlier movies, the best of which include The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, Liman is a more-than-capable director of action. The bar brawls here are well choreographed and cleanly shot, and the fighting encompasses everything from intimate fisticuffs to grander-scale set-pieces. Probably my favorite performance is given by a hungry crocodile who makes short work of one of the more annoying members of the cast and gives the movie some authentic Florida flavor. Most of the other key characters have been recycled from the first film, from the flirty doctor who gives Dalton more than strictly medical attention to the wealthy villain who has his own designs on the roadhouse.

Liman’s Road House doesn’t quite reach the original movie's level of silliness. Philip grew up in Louisiana (not New Orleans) before moving to St. Louis after graduating from Louisiana State University-Shreveport. When he's not writing about movies or television, Philip can be found being chased by his three kids, telling his dogs to stop barking at the mailman, or chatting about professional wrestling to his wife. Writing gigs with school newspapers, multiple daily newspapers, and other varied job experiences led him to this point where he actually gets to write about movies, shows, wrestling, and documentaries (which is a huge win in his eyes). If the stars properly align, he will talk about For Love Of The Game being the best baseball movie of all time. Instead of being a “cooler” with a checkered past, Gyllenhaal’s character in the remake will be a former UFC fighter who somehow manages to get a job at that rowdy Florida roadhouse.

'Road House' Remake: MGM Courting Jake Gyllenhaal, Doug Liman

“Road House” also helped to further solidify the rising Swayze’s stardom, with many of the late actor’s fans holding Dalton as one of his best roles. The original cast was filled to the brim with ‘80s stars like Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott, and Keith David, as well as wrestler-turned-actor Terry Funk as one of Brad Wesley’s (Ben Gazzara) numerous henchmen. It hasn’t been revealed if any of the surviving actors from Rowdy Herrington’s action film will show up for the remake, but this new version of Road House has a cast that’s nothing to laugh at. His features—the resolute jawline, those eyebrows like two thick slashes, that set of enormous anime-character eyes—haven’t slackened or softened. Gyllenhaal and Swayze were friends, and his performance here honors Swayze's without in any way parroting it, in a movie that’s a model of what a remake can be.

The person who attracts her attention, however, is the mystery man in the hoodie who’s just entered the makeshift ring. “Shrinking” star Jessica Williams, who confirmed to Variety last summer she’d be joining the cast, plays the roadhouse owner.

As Liman and screenwriters Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry navigate the waters of remaking a film like Road House, it illustrates precisely what is at stake in these kinds of endeavors. In spite of a few flashes of technical brilliance in its action sequences and a few tries made by its cast, this rebuilt Road House stands as a testament to just how difficult it is to capture lightning in a bottle. Gyllenhaal is here made to navigate a character who, despite a backstory crafted for complexity, comes across one-dimensionally. That’s not for want of trying on Gyllenhaal’s part, but rather the result of a script that never digs deep enough for the audience to fully explore or exploit the depth of Dalton’s inner turmoil. The result is a performance that feels removed from the emotional stakes at play and makes Dalton more of a caricature than a three-dimensional figure. Central to the movie is Gyllenhaal’s Dalton, a former UFC brawler grappling with his past.

Once again, an alpha brute in the form of Knox (Conor McGregor) is brought in to take the hero down.

He had been an Ultimate Fighting Championship star until he snapped and pummelled an opponent to a pulp—a career-ending trauma that still haunts his dreams. Now he lives out of his car and is trying to earn money by signing up for freelance fights. But even the toughest opponents (including one played by Austin Post, a.k.a. the rapper Post Malone) tend to forfeit in fear. Directed by (I kid you not) Rowdy Herrington and shepherded to life by super-producer Joel Silver, the original Road House has a bad reputation, one that it frankly deserves. The high concept—a man so good at bouncing that he’s literally famous in bars across the nation—is ludicrous.

Cast & Crew

And who needs it when you’ve got Doug Liman directing the whole thing? Robert Oppenheimer of lunatic action set pieces (“The Bourne Identity,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Edge of Tomorrow” to name a few). The original Road House famously saw Swayze’s James Dalton agree to leave his gig as a “cooler” at a New York City bar to take on a job as the head of security for a Jasper, Missouri bar with a bit of image problem. The remake, however, will leave the “Show Me State” and be set at a similar establishment down in the Florida Keys, according to Variety. Despite being outnumbered, Dalton’s fighting prowess means Brandt’s henchmen stand little chance against him. However, the plot thickens with the entry of Knox (Conor McGregor), a merciless mercenary.

Casting

Swayze in particular is a fascinating casting choice for the role, bringing his trained dancer’s physicality to the ass-kicking contest and winning over and over again. Lynch is one of the few humans alive at the time who could hold up her end of a nude scene with a Swayze in that condition. Elliott, meanwhile, has had every woman I know who’s watched this movie reacting like a wolf in a Tex Avery cartoon.

Movie Interviews

The first Road House flopped in theaters, but found a now-legendary new life on cable and VHS. This new Road House appears at a time when so much of our entertainment has been shrunk down to a manageable size. The energetic but dim remake of “Road House,” directed by Doug Liman, is hardly the picture to settle the question, much less inspire any new ones. But there’s a poignancy to the sight of Gyllenhaal, now forty-three and shredded to the max, paying tribute to his late former screen partner.

At the Road House, Dalton fends off a motorcycle gang working for local crime boss Ben Brandt and personally drives the injured thugs to the hospital, where he meets Ellie, a doctor who tends to his injuries. Staying in Frankie's disused houseboat, Dalton mentors the other bouncers and becomes popular with the locals. After an attempt on his life by gang leader Dell, Dalton finds him lying in wait at his houseboat. He throws Dell overboard but is unable to save him from being killed and eaten by a crocodile. It doesn’t sound like this film will have any time loops, or highly-trained sleeper agents with spotty memories, but there’s a lot from his past that Liman could bring to the table with his next feature film. If this is the first you are hearing about the Road House remake, or perhaps you read about it but thought it was too good to be true, stick around, because we’re about to break down everything we know about the upcoming reimagining.

Ben Gazzara (of The Big Lebowski and the original Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof fame) plays the real-estate developer and organized crime boss out to stop him from cleaning up the joint. The mixed martial arts community had a lot more eyes on it in early March 2023, when Jake Gyllenhaal made a couple of appearances in the lead-up and during UFC 285 in Las Vegas to film scenes for the upcoming movie. The first took place the day before the event when the actor, in character, took part in a weigh-in, as seen in a video shared by the official ESPN MMA Twitter account. When we meet former UFC fighter Dalton (Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal), he’s no longer fighting professionally and is flirting with the idea of ending of his life.

In an unsurprising concession to our era of instant gratification, Gyllenhaal’s Dalton begins hurting people a lot sooner than his predecessor did. He does still endeavor to be nice, though, and it’s amusing when he brings a group of troublemakers outside, teaches them all a well-earned lesson, and then drives them to the hospital. Yet to come are wounds that no doctor can treat, some of them inflicted by boats and others by bombs. He wisely shoots the bar brawls in mostly long, uninterrupted takes, moving the camera in synch with the actors and cutting more for clarity than sensation.

This might seem heavier than you’re expecting but Dalton’s brief low moment is well-calibrated. Swayze’s Dalton was also haunted by his past mistakes but that film’s lighter atmosphere isn’t conducive to too much emotionality. Since Liman’s film, with a script by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, streamlines some of the original “Road House” campiness, there’s some atmospheric wiggle room for Gyllenhaal’s Dalton to show us what he’s feeling and to sit in it. But Road House is known as the best bad movie of all time because of the considerable chops involved in making it. Romantic leads Swayze and Kelly Lynch were coming in hot off sexy performances in the smash hits Dirty Dancing and Cocktail, and they look every inch the babes they’re supposed to be.

Enraged, Dalton kills one of the thugs responsible and captures a sheriff's deputy making a large delivery of Brandt's illicit cash, framing the deputy for the murder and taking the money. The sheriff soon informs Dalton that Brandt has kidnapped Ellie and will exchange her for the money. While a production start date has not been set, MGM higher-ups reportedly see the project as a priority for the studio. No deals have been signed with Gyllenhaal or Liman yet, though the two are in active talks.

Struggling to get by on his reputation, Dalton catches the eye of Frankie (Jessica Williams), who owns a roadhouse in the picturesque Florida Keys. She recruits him as her new bouncer, aiming to protect her cherished establishment from a ruthless gang under the command of the local criminal overlord, Brandt (Billy Magnussen). In the era of action films like John Wick, the bar for adrenaline-fueled entertainment has been set high.

He’s polite to a fault, asking an assortment of creeps about their insurance coverage and proximity to the nearest hospital before beating the tar out of them—this is the source of much of the film’s droll (yes, droll) sense of humor. Billy Magnussen shines as the Gazzara-style villain, a flop-sweating, smarmy scion of a rich criminal who comes across like a long-lost Trump son. “Road House is the story of one bouncer’s quest to free a small town from the iron fist of the guy who is on the verge of opening the area’s first JC Penney. In this action landmark, Swayze plays Dalton, a “cooler” (head bouncer in charge) with a philosophy degree from NYU and a new gig at a Missouri hellhole.

In both films, Dalton and Doc engage in a type of instalove, where the audience isn’t privy to too much of the couple getting to know each other and growing closer. But it becomes more of a problem in the 2024 version, as female lead Daniela Melchior (“Fast X,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”) delivers a slightly unexpressive and serious performance. My favorite performance is given by a hungry crocodile who makes short work of one of the more annoying members of the cast and gives the movie some authentic Florida flavor. Even so, Gyllenhaal's Dalton feels like less of a pacifist than Swayze's, and he's not afraid to stir up trouble.

We also only had one battery, which, after having the camera on for about 30 minutes was already reporting 40 percent remaining. Working with what we had, we managed to get a couple shots that were great, but also a lot of footage that was more or less unusable.

USB-C for External Disks and Ethernet Control

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features an innovative and high speed USB-C Expansion Port that operates at up to 5 Gb/s. That means you can connect external accessories such as flash drives and SSDs for significantly longer recording times. A high speed external disk allows shooting 6K in the highest constant quality 12-bit Blackmagic RAW in the Q0 setting or at high frame rates. Best of all, when shooting is complete you can simply move the external disk to your computer and start editing and color correction from the same disk, eliminating file copying. When shooting a nature documentary, you want the smallest possible rig so you can be unobtrusive and out of sight. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K is ideal because everything you need is built right in.

Shoot in style with the first miniaturized digital film camera!

An experienced dive master for TV commercials, music videos and films, Hal talks about his Blackmagic Pocket Camera and his shooting setup. We could debate the merits of buying a mirrorless and adding an Atomos for RAW recording (which also requires batteries and rigging). Ultimately, the BMPCC with battery grip (or base battery) might be a more compact, all-in-one solution for affordable RAW capture. The camera has built-in user-customizable monitor LUTs to preview RAW and log formats in-camera and to an external display. The camera is equipped with dual XLR inputs, HDMI out, timecode support, CFast 2.0 and SD/UHS-II card readers, and USB-C output and can be used with an optional electronic viewfinder and battery grip.

Wireless Bluetooth Camera Remote Control

The secondary high base ISO of 3200 is perfect when shooting in dimly lit environments. The gain is set automatically as you adjust the ISO setting, so it's easy to capture great images when you don’t have time to set up lights. Portable digital film camera with wide dynamic range 4096 x 2160 resolution image sensor, MFT lens mount, large touchscreen, 3D LUTs and Blackmagic RAW, so you can capture Hollywood quality images. Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K supports an optional viewfinder to make outdoors and handheld shooting accurate and easy! You get an integrated high quality 1280 x 960 color OLED display with built in proximity sensor, 4 element glass diopter for incredible accuracy with a wide -4 to +4 focus adjustment. A built in digital focus chart ensures you get perfect viewfinder focus setup.

blackmagic design pocket cinema camera

Andreas Neumann talks about using the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K for the first time. ‘Balloons’ is Andreas’ extreme lighting test as he constantly shoots directly into the sun, wide open. ‘Balloons’ documents the camera’s performance from 5am in the morning into the height of the midday sun. The screen would also be big enough to eliminate the need for an HDMI monitor, were it not for the fact that it does not pivot to face forwards. This reduces the system’s usefulness in single-man camera operations since it’s impossible to determine if the focus is accurate, and there’s no built-in AF to rely upon.

To test the moiré of the camera, we shot the DSC Labs SineZone test chart. In use, a 40-minute battery life means that, on top of needing to swap out the media often, you’ll also need to replace the battery quite frequently. If you’re not blown away at those specs, your expectations are too high. The camera isn’t perfect, but what can you expect for a $1,300 camera? Adjusting tint is another way you can affect the overall color balance of an image. Unlike saturation or midpoint which can make reds redder or yellows more yellow, adjusting tint actually lets you push the colors in different directions.

The ability to transfer media directly into the DaVinci Resolve media bin as editors are working is revolutionary and has never before been possible. The Blackmagic PYXIS features two built in CFexpress card recorders, and a USB-C expansion port for recording direct to external flash media disks or an SSD. CFexpress media are more durable and faster than even older media so are perfect for recording full resolution, 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files. Plus, with dual CFexpress slots, customers can keep recording because customers can hot swap full cards without stopping. With 3 models, customers can choose between L-Mount, EF or PL lenses, making Blackmagic PYXIS compatible with the largest range of cinema and photographic lenses in the world.

The battery also discharges at an alarming rate, so it would be best to have several spares. After meandering through the campus for about an hour, our battery was already down to 21 percent, so we decided to head back home and see what we could do with the footage we had captured. The day that we received the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, we were very excited to see what it could do. Fortunately, nature cooperated wonderfully, providing some unstable weather and beautiful, cloud-filled skies to go along with it. With professional, high fidelity audio recording built in you'll never have to carry around a separate sound recorder again! Blackmagic Cinema Camera features 2 mini XLR inputs with 48 volts of phantom power for connecting professional microphones such as lapel mics and booms.

Moment's T-series lenses are well-built, offering the look and feel of a premium product. But with high-end smartphone cameras getting so good, can they still up your photo game? If you want a compact camera that produces great quality photos without the hassle of changing lenses, there are plenty of choices available for every budget. Read on to find out which portable enthusiast compacts are our favorites. Good travel cameras should be small, versatile, and offer good image quality.
